Major(s)/Minor(s) Major in Political Science, Minor in Professional
Internship Writing and Grants Intern at the Channel Islands YMCA - As an intern at the YMCA, I have written roughly 15 grant applications for 6 different YMCA branches in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. I have learned substantial writing skills and have been able to give back to a non-profit organization that I have been a part of since I was a child. It has been a truly rewarding experience.
Post-Graduation Plans I will be living in Santa Barbara and working as a Legal Assistant for a year while applying to schools to obtain a Masters in Political Science and a Public Law Degree. I plan on pursuing a career as a diplomat, foreign relations advisor, or lawyer for the US government.
Why I chose the Civic Engagement Track: As a political science major with a passion for writing, the civic engagement track of the professional writing minor was a great fit for both of my interests. Being able to empower people to make change through writing is an essential tool for civically-minded individuals.
My most memorable moments at UCSB were: In addition to my studies at UCSB, I have been a part of UCSB's only all-woman a cappella group VocalMotion. I have worked as both a music director and the president of this group and have had a blast performing at on-campus events, a cappella concerts, and even recording our first digital album. I have also studied abroad through the Irish Parliament Internship program and have participated in the UCDC program; both of which have been essential to my studies as a political science student.
