Internship for Writing Minor:
I am the Living Section Intern at The Santa Barbara Independent. The internship is unpaid but I am able to work remotely, which is really wonderful for a busy college student. Below is a link to the website providing more information about The Independent’s Internship Program.

Why the Civic Engagement Track:
I chose the Civic Engagement Track because I have always wanted to direct my writing towards a social cause. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to receive a college education, and to be living in a place where I have the right to free speech. I think it so important to try to make the most of our voices, if we have the chance to be heard, to make some productive change in society. I believe that studying Professional Writing for Civic Engagement has provided me with invaluable skills when it comes to writing with a social purpose, and allowed me to meet incredible young adults from whom I have learned so much.
Favorite Aspect of UCSB:
What I love most about UCSB is that it fosters a very tight knit community. Over my four years here, I have made life-long friendships, and I think that has much to do with the mentality of this school. People here look out for each other and are always willing to lend a helping hand. I think many people graduate from UCSB with genuine compassion and empathy for others, which I think are incredibly important values especially in this day and age.
Post-Graduation Plans:
After graduation, I plan to move back to the Bay Area to prepare for the GREs and apply to Journalism graduate programs. Before going back to school I hope to continue writing for The Santa Barbara Independent remotely, as well as continue volunteering for mental health organizations.
