Major(s)/Minor(s)
Major in Feminist Studies, Minor in Professional Writing Internship Santa Barbara County Public Health Department - Outreach Education Coordinator - For the past eight months within my position as Outreach Evaluation Coordinator at the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Tobacco Prevention Program, I have assisted the small division with organizing community presentations, recording minutes at task force meetings, collecting quantitative and qualitative data, writing brochures and monthly newsletters, proofreading documents, leading the youth coalition meetings, attending City Council meetings regarding tobacco policy, and collaborating with a variety of like-minded health oriented organizations in Santa Barbara County. Post-Graduation Plans After graduation, I plan to move to San Francisco or back to my hometown of Washington D.C. to pursue a job related to social justice, legislative processes, and/or the legal system. Ultimately, I would like to pursue an advanced degree in social work, education, and/or law. Why I chose the Civic Engagement Track: As a result of the UCSB writing classes I am more outspoken, on and off the paper, because the classes have taught me how to use rhetorical devices and successfully form and organize my arguments. I decided to pursue the Civic Engagement track because I wanted to learn more about the writing process and gain more insight on how to write an article or a research paper to target interest from a specific audience. Moreover, I wanted to gain experience using different forms of writing to achieve the same objective. My most memorable moments at UCSB were: 1. San Nic and DLG! 2. Making new friends! 3. Running along the bluffs! 4. Sunsets at Sands! |
