What I plan to do after graduation:
I plan to work in the nonprofit world providing services to underserved populations.
How I want to make an impact in the world:
I would love to work with young girls as a mentor and teacher. I currently work as a music teacher for girls through Girls Rock Santa Barbara, and I am always looking for ways to show kids that they don't have to accept the world that is handed to them.
Why I chose the Professional Writing Minor:
I love to write creatively and personally, and I believe that the written word is one of the most powerful forms of community building and message sharing. I was looking for the skills to make my writing as meaningful and effective as possible.
My most memorable moment at UCSB:
Playing music on the roof of the music building for the people biking by!
What I will miss the most about UCSB:
As nerdy as this sounds, the opportunities for intellectual discussion!
Kelty interns for Art Without Limits, an organization that creates intensive one-on-one mentorships for aspiring Santa Barbara County artists by pairing them with professional artists and business experts to help them succeed in their chosen art form. It encourage emerging art organizations by acting as their fiscal sponsor until they acquire their own not-for-profit certification. It also host the annual Art Career Day Conference, where teen artists have the opportunity to participate in workshops with professional artists who share their skills and wisdom.
As an intern, Kelty worked exclusively on organizing the Art Career Day Conference. She provided communication between AWoL and the art community in Santa Barbara, including professors, students, and local artists. She wrote press releases, invitations, and biographies for our programs. She also did event promotion and acted as a contact with the youth community in Santa Barbara and Goleta.
