Hometown:
Antioch, CA Major & Minor: Film & Media Studies & Professional Writing for Civic Engagement Affiliations (on-campus and off-campus): Resident Assistant, WORD Magazine, FOCUS Media Journal Contact Info (email, linkedin, website, etc): Website: janaealise2012.wix.com/janaeapowell What I plan to do after graduation: Currently waiting to hear back from a professional position at UCSB, but will be traveling to México in 2017 to work for the Communication Team at Na'atik Language School. How I want to make an impact in the world: Ideally, I want to be the millennial version of Oprah, and just a tad bit more multifaceted - I want to make content for the masses that is entertaining, but educates around the issues of race, gender, & ethnicity, and how they are represented in pop culture. Why I chose the Professional Writing Minor: I was encouraged by a writing professor of mine my sophomore year, and soon enough, I realized I had found my niche. My most memorable moment at UCSB: Getting a piece about my experience as a Black woman at UCSB published in WORD Magazine for Spring 2016. What I will miss the most about UCSB: Just being a student - everything about the lifestyle, the feel, the exploration of self. I'm really happy with who I've become, and I have my UCSB journey to thank for that. |
